Can Petunias and Fuschias that were cared for outside in hanging baskets be brought into the house for the winter and kept alive for next spring? Can they be planted in a sloping rock garden type set-up? Do they meerly just have to be thrown in the garbage?
Hanging plants...specifically Petunias and Fuchsias?
Petunias are a difficult plant to grow indoors because they need a lot of sunlight. If you have a window that offers several hours of light a day you can try it. You can also use a gro-light to supplement the light. If you use a flourescent gro-light keep it within one foot of the plant.
Fuschias are much easier to keep over the winter because they don't require as much light as petunias. But they don't like to be in a cold draft so keep that in mind when you decide where to keep it. They're also a little messy--flowers falling off every day.
And for both--do not overwater. Keep both pinched back pretty well--have no stems hanging over the pot's rim that are more than one foot long. Fertilize with Miracle Grow or another liquid fert about once a month.
Reply:Petunias are annual and will not survive. The fuschia will, keep it in a cool area. Expect some leaves to drop.
Reply:Sure. give them a nice sunny window. Rock garden, hmmm, might be too dry. Fuschia will root in water, or with hormone in soil.
