all five shades are awesome....but i guess red rays would look the best....if u have a very fair complexion, u can go for blonde blow out or way out white....

Hardy Fuchsia question..?

I live in zone 5/Mattoon IL. and I would love to get some Hardy Fuchsia plants, but I'm confused- in a catalogue it said they can be in zone 5 but now I'm looking at the net and I'm finding websites saying they are not hardy to zone 5. what's with that? Are there ones that are hardy to zone 5? Or will I just have to put mine deeper into the gound so that the winter wont kill them?

?

Hardy Fuchsia question..?
In order to avoid confusion, can you give the botanical name of the fuchsia you are looking to buy? That would help in giving you the proper answer.

If it's Zauschneria that the previous person stated, it's really only hardy to about 10 degrees. It's a California native and likes dry conditions, so it's only good if its' getting well-draining soil and placed with plants with similar water needs. I too have seen this plant rated from z5 to z3 but I'd be hard to see if get that low. Now if someone has it thriving in those low temps. -please speak up as I would love to know. Zauschneria has gone through a name change and some species are now known as Epilobium.

But again, give us the one you are looking at and we can give you a better answer. :)

EDIT: I've just gotten my botanical book out and am looking at Epilobium's zone ratings:

E. alsinifolium-z3

E. alsinoides-z8

E. anagallidifolium-z6

E. angustifolium-z3

E. brevipes-z8

E. canum (syn. Zauschneria californica)-z8

E. chloraefolium-z8

E. crassum-z8

E. dodonaei-z6

E. fleischeri-z5

E. glabellum-z8

E. hectori-z8

E. hirsutum-z8

E. komarovianum-z8

E. latifolium-z5

E. luteum-z3

E. pedunculare-z8

E. purpuratum-z8

E. septentrionale-z8

These are mostly native to New Zealand and the US. So, some are quite hardy while others are not. Check the variety first to be sure of its rating.

EDIT 2: Okay, it's probably the Fuchsia magellanica judging by the picture. It's root hardy to about 5-10 degrees maybe a little lower. The foliage will be damaged but the roots can go lower. You can give it winter protection at the base to keep the roots warm. My book says Z6. I've grown this one and the variegated one. Both are very pretty. I suppose you can try one out and see what it does. I would plant it as early in the season as possible so that it can get nicely established before the cool weather sets in. Hope this helps. :)
Reply:It depends on which one you get. I found one that's hardy to zone 3 (http://www.hamlens.com/nl/nl0502.html ), another that's only hardy to zones 7/8 (http://www.plantdelights.com/Catalog/Cur... ).

I would try one of the hardier types and use straw or other cover in the winter.
Reply:Don't plant them deeper, that will kill them. If you are worried about them, just mulch them over in the winter with grass or leaves

What fuchsia or pink flower can look well with yellow and white daisies?

I have already decided for yellow and white daisies, but i want a hint of pink or fuchsia so it does not look so plain. What kind of flower will look ok?

What fuchsia or pink flower can look well with yellow and white daisies?
The daisies sound lovely. I'd be very careful about adding any other flowers to the arrangement or bouquets. Daisies are very informal, youthful-looking flowers, and adding a more formal flower like roses, orchids, or lilies will spoil the effect. My suggestion is to use just those two colors. It doesn't seem plain to me. If these are bouquets for the bridesmaids, consider using a printed ribbon around the stems and trailing from the stems. If you're using a florist, I'd also ask the florist's advice. Depending on the time of year, it may be difficult (or just very expensive) to get some other flowers. And a floral designer can show you examples of different combinations of flowers and ribbons.
Reply:Pink gerbera daisies would be pretty. If you want something different, a few pink roses would be a nice touch and make the bouquets a little dressier.
Reply:roses or spray roses, fusia dendrobian orchids are also very pretty, (sorry if my spelling is off) their is also some pretty filler flowers like wax flower that would be nice.
Reply:Gerber daisies come in lots of colors. Alstromerias (a type of lily) are beautiful and come in lots of colors.
Reply:astromeria...i may have spelled it wrong, but it comes in shades of pink, is relatively inexpensive, and makes a nice addition to a bouquet.
Reply:Roses come in hot pink, and every shade lighter, down to a white rose that has pink tips on the petals. Gerbera Daisies also come in shades of pink, and might match your white daisies. You can get hydrangeas in lighter pink. Alstromerias come in pink among many other colors and make beautiful, inexpensive (in comparison to other flower prices) corsages and bouts. Be careful with carnations, while they are inexpensive, to many people, they, along with gladiolas, make people think of funerals because often people use the cheapest flowers at funerals. I wouldn't recommend using bright pink with a lot of yellow. If you're mostly using pink and white with a touch of yellow, like what naturally appears in a white daisy, that's ok, but yellow is a difficult color to predict in flowers and what shows up at your wedding might be closer to a mustard color, depending on the flower, where its grown and the season. I would recommend maybe hot pink roses and white daisies as your bouquet, with alstromerias in white or pink to accent.
Reply:Fuschia and Buttercup are the colors for my wedding.

I'm using roses, there are plenty of shades of pink in the rose family.

You can also dye the daisies pink too.

Carnations smell nice and complement the daisies.

Hybiscus could also throw a lot of color in there for you. Plus give you a little tropical vibe.

It really depends on what style your wedding is.

Good Luck!!
Reply:pink gerbera daisies
Reply:how about miniature roses in a soft pink color
Reply:i would go with a tulip or carnation something that matches your eyes and ensemble
Reply:Is it a bright yellow or more of a pastel colored yellows? If It's bright, you can use fuchsia, and if it's pastel, I'd go with pink, which is not so bright.

Personally, I'd go with tulips. They come in a large variety of colors, and I think they are incredibly pretty. Plus they are not so big that they will take over the arrangement.

But the best thing to do is probably go to a flower shop with your already chosen yellow and white flowers and try out different colors and flowers to see what matches best.
Reply:KK is referring to alstroemeria. I think it looks better in fall arrangements. You need a pinky-pink not a dirty-pink.

This depends on the time of year for your wedding. I think something wildflower-y would be best since daisies are pretty informal. Try New Zealand Waxflowers.
Reply:ginger...freesia...purple might be a good add also...purple roses, violets...african violets...
Reply:Rose is safe.

hydrangea and gerber daisy are good too.
Reply:no dont try it
Reply:You can always go with pink roses or oriental lilies.
Reply:pink carnations would be nice just a subtle hint of colour to a pretty boquet have a lovely day and a long and happy marriage xx
Reply:cosmos, they look like fuschia pink dasies but grow more in the fall

My fuchsia is in poor condition ?

I have a pink fuchsia, and it used to be healthy, now it is scrawny and the blooms usually swell, turn purple, and fall off before opening. Also, some of the leaves are discolored...brown and blackish....I re potted it today, and took off everything that seemed unhealthy (leaving it a little bare, lol). I noticed a little whitish stuff here and there, like cobwebs or mold...not a lot tho. AND I know snails have been chowing on it, too! Is there anything I can do to help this poor plant before throwing in the towel? thx

My fuchsia is in poor condition ?
The cobwebs stuff sounds like you may have mealy bugs on this plant. I use warm water and rubbing alcohol (1/2 %26amp; 1/2 ) with 10 drops dish detergent all shaken up in a spray bottle. Spray everywhere on plant. Maybe you need to repot plant if it's in a pot to get rid of contaminated soil. and then scratch one or 2 Tblsp. epsom salts into soil and water well. Never allow plant to stand in sopping wet soil and don't let it get bone dry either. I hope this works for you.

Fuchsia clothing line?

I heard somewhere that I can buy clothes from Fuchsia at Nordstrom's, is this true?

Fuchsia clothing line?
I don't think so, I just did a search on Norstrom.com and didn't come up with anything, sorry.

Fuchsia Girls?

Just curious, I have been hearing a lot of talk about "Fuchsia Girls" Veronica Scott and Lawren Pope, and was wondering if anyone else had a clue as to who they are? So far all I have found out is that they have had a few appearances on talk shows (Oprah, Ellen, Tyra), which I managed to only see the tail end of their Tyra interview, and I think that they might be clothing designers....(?) They looked really young, so I am really curious as to who they could possible be! Any clues would be great!

Fuchsia Girls?
yeh they could be clothes designer people. you should look them up in the internet. it will probably tell you.
Reply:Omg!! I love the Fuchsia clothing line! They have the CUTEST clothes ever! I went to their show at Smashbox studios in west hollywood last season and it was soooo much fun! AND I was sitting two rows behind Hilary Duff!
Reply:yeah they're like new designers, and i think the shia labouf thing is true cause he goes to like all their fashion shows during fashion week. oh and check on tmz cause i heard they're getting a new show on E!
Reply:Shia Labeouf!? I am like, so green!
Reply:I saw them on the news and I think that they are designers or whatever. None of it matters except that they're really hot.
Reply:I can help out a little:

Also, I am the biggest Oprah fan ever, and I thought that they gave an awesome interview. Apparently, they are two 20-year old girls who started a clothing company when they were 14. Now they design clothes for all kinds of celebrities including Oprah herself. They also run a non-profit for girls who can't afford to go to college.

And, just a a rumor, I heard that one of them (not sure which) is currently dating Shia Labeouf (sp?). But thats just gossip..........

Hope I was helpful!

Fuchsia dying?

I have so-so luck with my fuchsia's, but now, their flower buds are turning brown and dying before they even have a chance to bloom. I fed them Miracle Grow about a week ago, could this have something to do with it? It started shortly thereafter. If so, why did it happen? I fed them the normal dose for houseplants.

Fuchsia dying?
I live in almost a desert like climate in zone 9 and have successful upright and hanging fushias that are in baskets and the ground. Here is what I know about fushias. They do not like their roots cramped, so if they are houseplants in a container, check to see whether they are rootbound. If you applied Miracle Grow in the heat of the day, in direct sunlight on the leaves and flowers, you could have burned them. I used to use the liquid type until I discovered that it was burning them and now I am very careful to only fertilize at soil level. My fushias like moisture and the one in the basket in particular requires watering twice a day when it is hot. The ones in the ground get a good soaking from the automatic sprinklers in the morning and are in shade all day so their soil stays moist. The hybrids are a little more fussy and seem to struggle a little more before they become well established. They also really require pure shade, not even indirect light. If you can get them to revive, you can have them for years, brutally prune them back at the end of the season and they will return stronger and bigger every year. I have one in my front garden that is a huge bush and 5 years old.
Reply:I am not sure where you live and the climate but fuchsia do not like summer weather and have to have full shade.

Fuchsia or Magenta for my bridesmaids dresses???

I was going to go with both in the begining since I had six bridesmaids (3 in fuchsia and 3 in magenta) but now there is only 5 and I have to choose either one color or get another girl to be my sixth bridesmaid... All the girls are light olive skin tone and have medium dark features what would go best??? Its a Sept wedding.....

Fuchsia or Magenta for my bridesmaids dresses???
I agree - magenta would look best for a fall wedding.

Also - if you are set on having 2 different colors it would still look good to have 3 in one color and 2 in the other, then stagger them
Reply:i would choose the magenta with it being a fall wedding...

Reply:Magenta. prettier i think
Reply:If you want both colors, then simply have 3 in one color, and 2 in the other.

Aren't they both really the same color anyway though? Really dark, bright pink.......I would maybe go with something that contrasts a little more with each other....but it's your wedding. Do what makes you happy! Good luck!
Reply:Magenta
Reply:Have them try the colors on, whichever looks the best of the majority,go with that
Reply:Good lord, aren't these the same? If only all the world's problems were this serious.
Reply:Since these are jewel tones, how about 2 in magenta, 2 in fuchia, and the maid of honor in dark purple? Like amythist?
Reply:You can still do both. 3 in one color, 2 in the other. I think that would look cute.

Or maybe, 4 girls in one color and your maid of honor gets the other color, so she stands out as being important to you and the ceremony.
Reply:Both would be beautiful on olive skin, I'd go fuchsia but that's just my personal preference.
Reply:Put your two sisters (maid-of-honors) in one color, and the other girls in the other color. =)
Reply:why do you need to have 6 bridesmaids? you said you have 5 now, so just stick with the 5. you can alternate the colors still with no problem.

at my wedding i had 5 bridesmaids and there were 4 groomsmen. the whole symmetry thing is overrated
Reply:Go with the Fuschia!!
Reply:I think magenta is a bit darker and would probably be preferred by the bridesmaids since it's less gaudy. Since there are 5 bridesmaids, you could take a vote. One color will win either way.
Reply:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuchsia_(co...

you can use this site to compare the colors...they are both veyr similar so couldnt help you out ot pick one but i can tell you that i would pick the darker color because it is september...
Reply:Magenta Def! Coming from color artist, looks best on olive and dark skin tones also darker hair colors as well, GOOD LUCK GURLY!
Reply:I would go with Dark Magenta(the girls will love you for it lol)

I don't think the Fuchsias brightness will go with Olive skin.

Also If one of your sisters is married, she can be your Matron of Honor and you other sister your Maid of Honor. Or they can both serve as Maids of Honor.
Reply:magenta

Fuchsia hair?

I dyed my hair fuchsia about a week ago and now want to get ride of it. If I bleach it will the pink remain?

Fuchsia hair?
I would reccomend going to a salon and having a professional do it for you. From much bad dye experience, I have learned that trying to do it yourself only causes more problems!!
Reply:the pink will be a lighter pink

go darker until it grows out

you could bleach it up a bit to strip some of that fuchsia out of the hair.. then put a darker ashy blond or brown on it
Reply:Really it depends. How light was your hair to begin with? If it was bleached blond you could bleach it out because there isnt much pigment for it to hold on to anyways the problem with that is it is also jeopardizing the integrity of the hair again by bleaching it. Your best bet is to see if a colour specialist can help you achieve it without damaging your hair. Yes, it is possible!
Reply:sorry to tell you but it will wash your hair like a few times in the shower until it is almost faded then you can bleach (don't go in any pools 2 days after you bleach your hair it will turn a purplish-greenish color) and get shampoo and conditioner especially for blonde's good luck

GOOD LUCK!!!!! :D

Fuchsia bleeding heart?

Hi i got a young bleeding heart fuchsia on one off the stems it seems to have grown a couple off seed pods i have asked people and they said they have never heard of this before

any ideas would be greatfull

Fuchsia bleeding heart?
most plants including fuchsia will produce seed pods
Reply:After the flower part of the fuchsia has finished blooming they turn into seed pods. The best thing to do is to remove the seed pods down to the stem. This will promote more flower growth. It basically makes room for the plant to rebud itself.
Reply:The common name "bleeding heart" is given to Dicentras, not Fuchsias. Fuchsias have `bells`, Dicentra have `hearts`. Hybrid fuchsias sometimes produce seed, as do Dicentra. I imagine you live in a warm dry climate where seed production is more likely. Try planting the seed, when ripe and dry. Dicentra are easy to multiply via root cuttings.
Reply:I always association Bleeding Heart and the Fuchsia as being different plants.

Yes fuchsias definitely have seed pods, some are actually edible. I would say the bleeding heart plant does too.

Here is picture of bleeding heart plant that I know:

In May in the UK, the bleeding heart plant will be flowering but it is unlikely your fuchsia will be - unless you have it in doors.

Fuchsia plant. black spots on leaves, not doing well. any advice?
remove the leaves with the spots water and feed a good tomato food is best I have never seen black spot on fushias but I'm no expert

pinch out the tops regularly to make a good bushy shrub they flower better it's probable yours was forced onto flower to early and now its in normal conditions it,s resting before flowering again

What colour goes with fuchsia?

what colour goes with fuchsia

lol my mate is sitting next to me and his girlfriend is going to prom in a fuchsia dress he wants to know what colour is co-ordinated or w.e with fuchsia...

any girls lend a hand???

thanks in advance

What colour goes with fuchsia?
Black or white
Reply:Have you thought about going to Lowe's or something and looking at paint pallettes? Match the color of the dress to a swatch, then it will give you all the coordinating colors that go with it. It's intended for decorating, but color is color! You can go to lowes.com or sherwinwilliams.com, but they will tell you right on the website that the colors may be off due to your monitor. Good luck!
Reply:I love fuchsia!!! Silver can be really pretty with fuchsia. Cream can look really good if you want to tone it down a little. Black can make it look stunning. Brown also would look as good as black. I guess it depends on what you are talking about. Is it jewellery, additional clothing or shoes, bags, flowers??? Hope she has fun and Im sure she will look gorgeous!
Reply:If you are asking what he should wear .... I would say a dark gray (charcoal suit), white shirt, and .... if he's brave enough, a fucshia tie:) A classic black suit would also work. If he's not into the pink tie, he could do silver or champagne and she could match her accessories to that.

Good luck:)
Reply:Brown goes nicely but if you look at a colour wheel

then the colour near each other go opposites can go but sometimes clash
Reply:Dark brown would balance fuchsia out and look nice and formal given the occasion.
Reply:lime green, they are BEAUTIFUL together

Fuchsia, so delicate, please tell me how to grow fuchsia.?

I just adore fuchsia, so delicate and beautiful. I bought one for my mother-in-law and she let it die, not on purpose, she just isn't into plants the way that I am. I want a fuchsia, please advise me how to take care of them, can they be started by seed? They seem too delicate for transplanting. Please advise me

Fuchsia, so delicate, please tell me how to grow fuchsia.?
Fuchsias are originally from tropical America. They attract Hummingbirds as they bloom all summer from late spring until the first frost. They are available in several forms including upright shrubs or trailing hanging basket forms. Fuchsias grow best in cool-summer areas where there is a lot of moisture in the soil and the air. Fuchsias can only be planted in full sun in some of the cooler zones. Generally, they should be planted so they receive a small amount of morning sun or dappled shade all day long. If your summers are warm, windy or dry, you should protect your fuchsia by planting it in a location where it will be sheltered from the wind and will not receive hot afternoon sun.

Fuchsia blooms appear on new growth, so if you prune your fuchsia, be sure to do it before the new spring growth. Fuchsias readily accept pruning so you can prune the plant to keep it a particular size or to remove broken branches. Prune frost-damaged stems only after the last frost has past.

Fuchsias require porous, water-retentive acid soil that is rich in organic matter. Plants in containers or hanging baskets will need more water as they will dry out faster than those in the ground. For hanging baskets or containers, regular fertilizing will keep the plant blooming through out the season. A fertilizer such as Osmocote 14*3 works well.

Fuchsia may be propagated by seed or stem tip cuttings. The seed germinates in 21 to 28 days at temperatures between 70 and 75 °F. Firm down the growing media, then sow the seed on top. Cover the seed with a thin layer of media and firm it down again.
Reply:Thank You so much for your information, I eagerly await the new growing season. You must own a nursery, you know so much about plants. Thanks again! Report It

Reply:I love them too, especially the fact they they attract hummingbirds and butterflies! You can grow them from seed but I find it much easier to plant them from nursery stock. I *make* my own hanging planters every year by purchasing small plants and planting them myself in hanging baskets. Use a GOOD potting soil...I love Miracle-Gro soil because it already has fertilizer in it that lasts up to 3 months! This makes care much easier. They like shade and moist soil so be sure to check the moisture level daily. They tend to dry out rather quickly in the heat of summer especially if they are in part-sun, which they can easily tolerate if watered daily. Fertilize every 2 weeks if not using a soil mix that already has it in it. If using a pre-fertilized soil, fertilize after about 8-10 weeks. Be sure to deadhead spent blooms to ensure continuous blooms throughout the summer. Enjoy!
Reply:all you really need to do is take a few cuttings, put in a jar of water on the window sill.they will soon root.works every time
